Sterling FCX Firefighter Escape System – SafeTech or FireTech2

The Sterling FCX Escape System is a pre-assembled personal escape system designed for rapid emergency egress and firefighter self-rescue. Built around Sterling’s FCX descent-control device, the system combines a heat-resistant escape rope, Lightning GT escape anchor, SafeD auto-locking carabiner, and reinforced pocket storage bag into a compact system designed to integrate with firefighter turnout gear.

The FCX descent device provides controlled braking during descent and automatically locks when weighted. Its Click-to-Neutral feature allows horizontal movement and improved rope payout at a windowsill, while elevated side rails help reduce glove interference and rope entrapment. A spring-loaded handle remains out of the way until needed. The FCX is machined from 7075-T6 aluminum and weighs approximately 7.8 ounces.

Each configuration incorporates Sterling’s Lightning GT escape hook, designed to provide secure placement at the sill and multiple anchoring options. The SafeD auto-locking aluminum carabiner uses a three-stage gate and removable captive-eye pin to maintain proper orientation and help prevent cross-loading.

Vertex Outfitters offers the FCX Escape System in three configurations. The SafeTech version uses Sterling’s 8 mm nylon/Technora escape rope. The FireTech2 version uses 7.5 mm 100% Technora construction for increased heat resistance. Configurations designated “TE” add Sterling’s 9-inch Tech Extension Lanyard.

Available configurations are FCX SafeTech LGT Pocket Escape System, FCX TE SafeTech LGT Pocket Escape Kit, and FCX TE FireTech2 LGT Pocket Escape System. All three include the FCX descent device, Lightning GT hook, SafeD carabiner, appropriate escape rope, and Escape Kit Pocket Bag. TE configurations additionally include the 9-inch Tech Extension Lanyard.
